Did You Know that January is Learn a Snow Sport Month?

Learn a Snow Sport Month: Glen Plake

Snow sports icon Glen Plake appears on NBC's Today Show January 4 to talk about learning a snow sport during January Learn a Snow Sport Month. Plake filmed a segment December 15 at Camelback Resort in Pennsylvania teaching show co-anchor Hoda Kotb how to ski. Hoda "catches on" so quickly that she is able to "join" Plake in the terrain park. Children from the local community participated. The Loft provided chothin and Elan/Dalbello provided the equipment.

More than 300 Alpine resorts and Nordic Centers in 32 states are offering prgrams ranging from FREE to very affordable during the month of January, 2010. On Winter Trails day, January 9, children and adults can try snowshoeing and/or cross country skiing free at 80 venues throughout the U.S. Details are at www.learnasnowsport.org.

Learn a Snow Sport Month organizers are excited to have extreme skier and snow sports ambassador Glen Plake as their official national spokesperson. The announcement was made during the annual Northeast Winter Summit at Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. Click here to read the press release.

A Message from Glen

Hi!

Glen Plake here! I’m really happy to be the national spokesperson for Learn a Snow Sport Month. Even though people know me as an extreme skier, I started out just like everyone else – by taking lessons and practicing. Check out my Web site at glenplake.net.

I’ve been lucky! I’ve traveled all over the globe, met some fantastic people and skied in some pretty crazy and wild places. One thing I know is that snow sports – whether you’re talking alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing or snowshoeing – are FUN. The better you are at them the more you will enjoy them.

My wife Kim and I have visited a lot of smaller resorts over the years on our Down Home Tour. We spoken to a lot of kids and adults – we’ve probably even met some of you. It really gets me excited to see the joy on the faces of those who love snow sports as much as I do.

Do me a favor. If you already are involved in snow sports bring a friend to the snow this year. If you’ve never tried it, now is the time.

Like me, it probably will change your life. Hope to see you on the snow this winter.
