Snow sports icon Glen Plake appears on NBC's Today Show January 4 to talk about learning a snow sport during January Learn a Snow Sport Month. Plake filmed a segment December 15 at Camelback Resort in Pennsylvania teaching show co-anchor Hoda Kotb how to ski. Hoda "catches on" so quickly that she is able to "join" Plake in the terrain park. Children from the local community participated. The Loft provided chothin and Elan/Dalbello provided the equipment.

More than 300 Alpine resorts and Nordic Centers in 32 states are offering prgrams ranging from FREE to very affordable during the month of January, 2010. On Winter Trails day, January 9, children and adults can try snowshoeing and/or cross country skiing free at 80 venues throughout the U.S. Details are at www.learnasnowsport.org.

“Hi, I’m Glen Plake, national spokesperson for Learn a Snow Sport Month.

Most people know me as an extreme skier and I admit I have done some pretty crazy things on snow. I’ve worked hard to be able to do some things most people can’t do or shouldn’t do. One thing I’ve learned during my career is that, first and foremost, snow sports are FUN! You can enjoy being outside in winter, have a great time with family or friends and get some exercise.

By the way, I know how important it is to take lessons from a pro. This winter LEARN a SNOW SPORT! Go with a Pro!

So many states are part of Learn a Snow Sport Month. Just click on the logo of your choice below.  And, say HI if you see me on the slopes this winter. “

Learn a Snow Sport Month is supported by SnowSports Industries America(SIA), Professional Ski Instructors of America –American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI), National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) and Cross Country Ski Areas Association (CCSAA) .
